Ann Tsai

Ann Tsai is a pianist and composer born and raised in Taiwan, whose artistic practice spans classical piano performance, electroacoustic composition, and interdisciplinary sound installations. Driven by a profound curiosity to break traditional musical boundaries, Tsai focuses on computer-based sound processing techniques to explore the multifaceted possibilities of sound and spatial expression. Their works seamlessly integrate sound, visual imagery, and spatial experiences, dedicated to constructing multi-layered perceptual narratives that interweave a classical music background with contemporary art forms.

Passionate about rediscovering the potential of acoustic instruments, Tsai specializes in electronic augmentation, merging acoustic elements with synthesizers and digital processing technologies. A defining characteristic of their creative process is the search for vulnerability and softness, drawn to the quiet strength that fragility holds. For Tsai, this fragility is not silence; rather, it is a barely sustained yet profoundly honest signal.

Recent works reflect a deep fascination with cross-disciplinary dialogues and the boundaries of human sensation. Whether drawing from a singular musical motif or environmental field recordings, Tsai is committed to deepening the understanding and translation of contemporary artistic vocabularies, ultimately constructing highly unique, sensory-driven sonic spaces.

Tsai holds a Master’s degree in Piano Performance from the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), where they studied under Eckart Heiligers. In the field of electroacoustic composition, Tsai has studied with Professor Thomas Peter and composer Zeynep Toraman. Currently, Tsai is an active member of the Petrochor Trio and has been a member of the O-Point Ensemble since 2025.
